This morning, I was going through an old file box, throwing away anything unnecessary. I found a folder of birthday cards from students from several semesters ago. As I read through them, I was thinking: Wow, we really had such a good dynamic in that class—they all wrote me birthday cards! and they're really funny! and smart!
But then, I remembered, for some reason that particular Fall, I thought it would be funny to make my students write rhetorical birthday cards for extra credit.
They really came through. With the rhetoric. With the wishes.
