A few weeks ago, one of my friends wrote this amazing post about how God puts things in our life deliberately to prepare us for other things, and so we can learn. She wrote about how it's an art—and really gorgeous.

Lately, I've been thinking this same thing about friends. When I was younger, I might have said: Oh friends! It's about laughing our heads off, and pranks, and jumping on trampolines, and going on drives, and eating food, and telling stories about boys, and—I could go on and on. I loved my friends. But, the older I get, I'm becoming more acutely aware of how these friends are saving my soul day by day—millimeter by millimeter.

Anyways, today I'd like to send a BIG FAT HAPPY BIRTHDAY out to my friend Kals. And BIG FAT THANK YOU to heaven for sending her into my life right at the perfect time. She doesn't hide herself at all.  She's just kind and lovely and amazing, and there's something healing about the way she doesn't try to hide her love for other people. When I'm with her, I feel like I can handle anything.

My birthday wish for you this year = more days for us to hang out.

  1. I SO SO SO believe this. I know this to be true because of recent life circumstances. I will write about it soon, but I know God puts things in my life to prepare me for certain things... and this is a doozy. Thanks for writing this. I think friends and family and people we get to know in some way are all important for our growth, and to help us for future things. God works in mysterious ways, but if you think about it, it's not that mysterious after you see why certain things did or didn't work out, right?
